Question Tag

Rule 1. Question Tag बनाने के लिए Helping verbs को Subject के साथ use किया जाता है। यदि Question Tag Negative होता है तो Helping Verb को संक्षिप्त रूप (contracted form) में use किया जाता है। जैसे: isn’t she ? aren’t ? can’t they ? etc. इन Helping verbs का Contracted form निम्न होती हैः
do not = don’t
will not = won’t
does not = doesn’t
cannot = can’t
did not = didn’t
should not = shouldn’t
am I not = aren’t
I would not= wouldn’t
is not = isn’t
could not = couldn’t
are not = aren’t
may not = mayn’t
has not = hasn’t
might not = mightn’t
have not = haven’t
ought not = oughtn’t
had not = hadn’t
must not = mustn’t
was not = wasn’t
used not = usedn’t
were not = weren’t
need not = needn’t
shall not = shan’t
dare not = daren’t

Rule 2. Positive sentence का Question Tag, Negative होता है तथा Negative Sentence का Question Tag,
Positive होता है।
Positive sentence, helping verb +n’t subject ?
Negative sentence, helping verb + subject ?
Note Question Tag हमेशा small letter से शुरू किया जाता है।

Rule 3. Question Tag के साथ हमेशा Personal Pronoun (I, we, you, he, she, they, it) use होता है। जैसेः
(i) Raman is going to Chennai, isn’t he ? (Not isn’t Raman ?)
(ii) Roshani was preparing tea, wasn’t she ? (Not wasn’t Roshani?)

Rule 4. Sentence में यदि कोई Helping verb नहीं हो तो Question Tag में आवश्यकतानुसार do/does/did को प्रयोग में लिया जाता है। जैसे:
(i) She goes to school, doesn’t she ?
(ii) She went to school, didn’t she ?
(iii) They help the needy, don’t they ?
(iv) Raman and Aman help each other, don’t they ?

Rule 5. Sentence का Subject यदि There, This, That, These, Those, One आदि होता है तो Question Tag में Subject निम्न प्रकार लगता है। जैसे:
Sentence का Subject – Question Tag में Subject
There – There
This – It
That – It
These – They
Those – They
One – One
(i) There is a tiger, isn’t there ?
(ii) This is a car, isn’t it ?
(iii) That is his house, isn’t it ?
(iv) These are your cows, aren’t they ?
(v) Those are her cattle, aren’t they ?
(vi) One can do it, can’t one ?

Rule 6. This, that, these, those, one का प्रयोग यदि Noun के साथ प्रयोग होता है तो Question Tag, Noun के gender तथा person के अनुसार लगता है। जैसे:
(i) This house is yours, isn’t it ?
(ii) That girl was absent yesterday, wasn’t she ?
(iii) This student is very intelligent, isn’t he ?
(iv) These cattle are hers, aren’t they ?
(v) Those books are mine, aren’t they ?
(vi) One man can push it, can’t he ?

Rule 7. यदि Sentence का Subject No-one, None, Anyone, Anybody, Someone, Somebody, Everyone, Everybody, या Nobody होता है तो Question Tag का Subject हमेशा They होता है। जैसे:
(i) Nobody is perfect in the world, are they ?
(ii) No-one was there at that time, were they ?
(iii) None can do it, can they ?
(iv) Someone helped her, didn’t they ?
(v) Anybody can solve this problem, can’t they ?

Rule 8. यदि Sentence का Subject Something, Nothing, Anything या Everything होता है तो Question Tag का Subject it होता है। जैसे:
(i) Everything was arranged, wasn’t it ?
(ii) Anything can happen, can’t it ?
(iii) Something is missing, isn’t it ?
(iv) Nothing was in proper order, was it ?

Rule 9. यदि Sentence का Subject, All of us, Some of us, Any of us, None of us, Most of us, Everyone of us, Either of us, Neither of us, होता है तो Question Tag का Subject हमेशा we होता है। और यदि us की जगह पर you या them होता है तो Question Tag का Subject, you या they होता है। जैसे :
(i) All of us are invited there, aren’t we ?
(ii) All of them were there, weren’t they ?
(iii) All of you can join this party, can’t you ?
(iv) Neither of them are eligible, are they ?

Rule 10. यदि Sentence में I am होता है तो उसका Question Tag हमेशा aren’t I ? होता है। जैसे :
(i) I am your teacher, aren’t I ? (Not amn’t I ?)
(ii) I am not your friend, am I ? (Not are I ?)

Rule 11. Dare तथा Need को modal के रूप में use किया जाता है तो इसका Question Tag, dare तथा need से बनता है। जैसे:
(i) She dare not oppose her brother, dare she ?
(ii) He need not go there, need he ?

Rule 12. Dare तथा Need को main verb के रूप में use किया जाता है तो उसका Question Tag, do/does/did से बनता है। जैसे:
(i) He dares to oppose his brother, doesn’t he ?
(ii) He does not dare to oppose his brother, does he ?
(iii) She needs to work hard, doesn’t she ?
(iv) She does not need to work hard, does she ?
(v) He needed my help, didn’t he ?

Rule 13. Sentence में यदि used to का प्रयोग होता है तो उसका Question Tag में usedn't या didn’t का प्रयोग किया जा सकता है और यदि Question Tag Positive होता है तो used या did का प्रयोग होता है। जैसे:
(i) He used to smoke, usedn’t he ?/didn’t he ?
(ii) He used not to smoke, used he ?/did he ?

Rule 14. जब किसी Sentence में few, little, neither, none, nothing, no-one, nobody, hardly, rarely, seldom, scarcely, never etc. होता है Question Tag हमेशा Positive होता है। जैसे:
(i) None was present there, were they ?
(ii) They did nothing, did they ?
(iii) Barking dogs seldom bite, do they ?
(iv) I know little about her, do I ?
(v) Few persons can keep a secret, can they ?
(vi) He hardly earns anything, does he ?

Rule 15. Imperative Sentence का Question Tag, will you ? या won’t you ? किसी से भी बन सकता है लेकिन Negative imperative sentence का Question Tag हमेशा will you ? होता है।
(i) Open the door, will you ?/won’t you ?
(ii) Do not open the door, will you ?
(iii) Let him go, will you ?
(iv) Let them play, will you ?

Rule 16. Let’s (let us) ls शुरू होने वाले वाक्यों का Question Tag, shall we ? होता है
(i) Let us play chess, shall me ?
(ii) Let us go for a walk, shall we ?

Rule 17. Imperative sentence में यदि नाराजगी व्यक्त की जाती है तो उसका Questions, Tag, can’t you ? होता है जैसे:
(i) Use you own vehicle, can’t you ?
(ii) Mind your own business, can’t you ?
(iii) Use your own pen, can’t you ?
(iv) Shut up, can’t you ?
